lived during the war in Batten Street, off Aylestone Road, with
the large (still extant) Gas tank, about 200 yards away. So, my
mum and dad always felt we were a likely target! From 1943 on, a
U.S.A.A.F. stores depot took over the woodworking factory, opposite
our terrace, and as a kid, I had some good times with them.
